Learn to Train Skills Camp


The Learn to Train Skills Camp is the entry level program to the Nelson Kayak Canoe Club Sprint Team. Developed through fun games and drills, athletes will improve paddling technique, balance and will have an opportunity to experience team boats. This program has a smaller ratio of athletes to coaches and is an ideal learning environment. These two week sessions are a mandatory starting point for athletes under the age of 12 or athletes trying the sport for the first time.


Practice Details: 

Tuesdays and Thursdays: 4:00pm - 5:30pm 

Practice is always held at the Rowing Pavillion, at Lakeside Park in Nelson, BC.

Learn to Train Skills Camp Registration:

This program runs on a participant registration basis, as soon as we have four participants registered the program will begin.

We plan to be running our first two week session from May 22nd to 31st.

Sprint Team Program - Regatta Ready


The Regatta Ready Intermediate Level program of the Nelson Kayak Canoe Club Sprint Team is designed for athletes who have some experience in sprint canoe/kayak. This program offers three practices per week, where athletes develop their paddling skills through drills, techniques, and games. In this program, athletes will have opportunities to race at different provincial regattas and local race nights.


Practice Details: 

Monday and Wednesday: 4:30pm - 6:00pm 
Saturday 9am - 11am

Practice is always held at the Rowing Pavillion, at Lakeside Park in Nelson, BC.

Sprint Program Registration Spring 2018:

Program Fees: $195.00 from May 1st to June 15th  - that's a lot of sessions for your money!  Not all sessions are mandatory, however athletes benefit from participating in as many of the practices as possible. There will be a summer program starting June 16th until mid September.

To be a part of an Nelson Kayak and Canoe Club program individuals must have CKBC insurance and NKCC membership. To register for your insurance and membership click HERE

Shoulder season paddling requires appropriate cold water immersion apparel. 

Example of appropriate clothing for spring paddling is: 

  • lycra tights/leggings with a loose fit over shorts
  • polypropylene long sleeve underwear 
  • lighter shirt
  • light windbreaker
  • hat/toque
  • water shoes/flip flops
  • towel
  • change of clothes/warm up clothes

Sprint Team Program- High Performance

New to 2018, The Nelson Kayak Canoe Club is offering...

High Performance Training!


The High Performance Advanced Level program of the Nelson Kayak Canoe Club Sprint Team is designed for athletes who have experience in racing sprint canoe/kayak and are driven to train five days a week in a self-directed, high-intensity environment. Athletes in this program will race at different provincial and national regattas.


Practice Details: 

Monday and Wednesday: 4:30pm - 6:00pm

Tuesdays and Thursdays: 6:30am - 7:30am 

Saturday 9am - 11pm 

Practice is always held at the Rowing Pavillion, at Lakeside Park in Nelson, BC.

Sprint Program High Performance 2018 Season Registration:

Program Fees: $245 for May 1st to Jun 15th.  Not all sessions are mandatory, however athletes benefit from participating in as many of the practices as possible.

Adult Learn To-sdays


The Learn-to Tuesday Adult Paddler Program will introduce paddling technique and is designed for adults with little to no sprint paddling experience. This program is also recommended for recreational paddlers looking to improve their stroke development. The First Year Adult Program has a smaller ratio of athletes to coaches and is an ideal learning environment. These two week sessions are a great way to try the sport!

Registration:

Summer Camps

- SPEND THE SUMMER ON THE WATER - 

These fun summer camps are designed for children between the ages of 8 – 16. Children will develop kayaking and canoeing skills, while making friends, and having fun on the water.


Details: 

  • Weekly camps run through July and August from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM, from Tuesday to Friday. 


Private/Group Lessons

WHY DO PRIVATE LESSONS WITH US?

  •  To learn how to kayak and/or canoe in our sprint boats or your personal boat.
  •  To improve your paddling technique.
  •  To develop fundamental skills and feel confident paddling on your own!
  •  Have private one-on- one lessons with our certified coaches.
  •  Make life-long memories of paddling around on Kootenay lake! 

Details:

Private lessons are available starting June 1st.

A minimum of 1.5 hour lesson is required.

1-12 participants for a group lesson.
